First Year
Students complete the requirements of one the following three gateway programs. Please see the respective websites for details.
- Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program (INP)
- Cellular and Molecular Biosciences (CMB)
- Mathematical, Computational and Systems Biology (MCSB)
End of Year 1:
Students, who have selected a Thesis Advisor with a primary or joint appointment in Developmental and Cell Biology, transfer into the department. The Thesis Advisor has agreed to advise and sponsor the student for the entire period of graduate studies.
Second Year

- Journal Club (There are several options for Fall and Winter quarters, but in Spring quarter, the departmental JC -Dev Bio 206C- is mandatory)
- Teaching: 50% TAship (recommended)
