Fall 2023 Seminar Series

Each quarter the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology hosts a weekly seminar. The purpose of these seminars is to enable experts from around the country to share their newest discoveries and ideas with our students and faculty. Seminars are held on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m., in Natural Sciences II room 4201, and live streamed via Zoom.  For seminar schedule click here.

Dissecting complex diseases using functional proteomics for clinical intervention

Abstract:

Advances in high-throughput techniques has revolutionized biomedical research by creating avenues for integrated system-level approaches, revealed mechanisms driving diseases and suggested novel targeted therapies. To effectively utilize proteomics data to guide in-depth mechanistic studies in development and diseases, we developed several new techniques and algorithms, such as ACUMEN-APEX2/TurboID and Minkowski distance-based algorithm MUSE, to generate high-quality, spatial- and tempol-precise protein-protein interaction networks in diseases models. Using these networks, we studied the composition and reprogramming of key signaling networks in development and cancers such as acute T lymphoblastic leukemia. Our research revealed novel mechanisms and provided biomarkers and drug targets for the diagnosis and treatment of such tumors.
