The quality of the faculty in the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences has remained high while increasing steadily in number over the past few years, giving students a remarkable range of expertise in biology and with it, a large number of different advanced courses and research opportunities. In addition, their efforts have brought several high-impact research units to the campus.
Beckman Laser Institute
UC Irvine Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic is internationally-recognized for research, innovation, and translational medicine – all under one roof. Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic inventions include new laser therapies for diseases that were previously untreatable, improving lives for tens of millions of patients worldwide.
Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center
The UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County.
NCI cancer centers are national leaders in cancer research, education and treatment, and centers designated as “comprehensive” are at the forefront, signifying that it has met rigorous criteria aimed at providing world-class patient care and innovative research.
Center for Complex Biological Systems
The Center for Complex Biological Systems (CCBS) at the University of California Irvine aims to promote research, education and outreach in Systems Biology by integrating expertise and perspectives from diverse scientific fields to develop a deeper understanding of biological processes.
Developmental Biology Center
The Developmental Biology Center (DBC) is a School Center in UCI’s Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences. The mission of the DBC is to support campus-wide activities that benefit the developmental biology community at UC Irvine and to foster collaborations that can garner independent funding.
Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics
Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics (IGB) is dedicated to educating the next generation of computational biologists. In addition to an active speaker and conference program (see Events), in which experts from other universities, government and industry engage the IGB community with their research and ideas. IGB institutes and manages educational initiatives at UCI, which train either computational or life sciences fellows in the cross-discipline.
NSF-Simons Center for Multiscale Cell Fate Research
The NSF-Simons Center for Multiscale Cell Fate Research (CMCF) is connecting scientists across mathematical, physical, and biological sciences to usher in a new era of biology. CMCF is one of four NSF-Simons Research Centers for Mathematics of Complex Biological Systems situated across the country, jointly funded by the National Science Foundation and the Simons Foundation.
Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Center
The Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a world leader in research, having developed the first federally approved human trial of an embryonic stem cell treatment. UCI’s Stem Cell Research Center is pioneering research into stem cell therapies for Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cancer, Diabetes, Retinitis Pigmentosa, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases and conditions.
UC Irvine Transgenic Mouse Facility (TMF)
The UC Irvine Transgenic Mouse Facility (TMF) is a core facility that provides services on a recharge basis for making, breeding, genotyping, importing, and preserving genetically-modified mice and embryonic stem cells. In addition to academic clients at UCI, we also service academic investigators at several other sister UC-campuses and numerous other universities throughout the USA as well as providing these services to commercial clients. The TMF’s research associates have a combined 130 years of experience in generation of genetically engineered mice.
UC Irvine Optical Biology Core Facility
The Optical Biology Center is a Shared Resource Facility to provide researchers access to resources, including state of the art instrumentation and technical support, to conduct biomedical research.
