As a postdoctoral fellow in the Eric Deeds’ lab at UCLA, Dr Lagunes focuses on understanding the mechanisms regulating proteasome assembly, using a combination of mathematical modeling and in vitro experimental methods to better determine the dynamics and pathways of bacterial proteasome assembly. “With the UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP), I will focus on the Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteasome, which contributes to its remarkable resistance against human macrophages. I will continue to use an interdisciplinary approach. Additionally, with PPFP I am further motivated to address the lack of representation of Latinx in STEM and fight for equitable, diverse and inclusive scientific environments,” said Dr. Lagunes.
