1st Year:

Students complete the requirements of one the following three gateway programs. Please see the respective websites for details.

 

End of Year 1:

Students, who have selected a Thesis Advisor with a primary or joint appointment in Developmental and Cell Biology, transfer into the department. The Thesis Advisor has agreed to advise and sponsor the student for the entire period of graduate studies.

 

2nd Year (See Graduate Handbook for Details)

  • Classes
    • Departmental Seminar (Dev Bio 290)
    • Journal Club (There are several options for Fall and Winter quarters, but in Spring quarter, the departmental JC -Dev Bio 206C- is mandatory)
  • Teaching: 50% TAship (recommended)
  • Research Progress: Second Year Committee Meeting

 

3rd year

  • Classes
    • Departmental Seminar (Dev Bio 290)
    • Journal Club (there are several options for Fall and Winter quarters, but in Spring quarter, the departmental JC-Dev Bio 206C- is mandatory)
    • Teaching: 50% TAship (recommended)
      • Research Progress
        • Pre-Advancement meeting
        • Advancement to Candidacy

 

4th year and Beyond

  • Classes
    • Departmental Seminar (Dev Bio 290)
    • Journal Club (there are several options for Fall and Winter quarters, but in Spring quarter, the departmental JC -Dev Bio 206C- is mandatory)
  • Research Progress
    • Annual Tune-up meeting

 

Final year:

  • Classes
    • Departmental Seminar (Dev Bio 290)
    • Journal Club (you may request to opt out of JC in the quarter of your defense )
  • Research Progress
    • Annual Tune-up meeting “Green light” committee meeting (6 months or less before your defense)
    • Thesis Defense

 

Maximal time to degree is 7 years.
