RESEARCH INTEREST: Zebrafish developmental genetics

Our laboratory is generally interested in the early embryonic development of the vertebrate nervous system and skeleton. We study zebrafish, small teleost fish that have emerged as a powerful new genetic system for studying how genes control early development. The genetic mechanisms we are studying have important implications for human birth defects and cancers. Accordingly, our research is currently supported by the March of Dimes (1-FY01-198), the Pew Scholars Program (2615SC) and by the NIH (NS-41353 and DE-13828).
